Neoprene/EPDM

What is Neoprene/EPDM?

Neoprene/EPDM is a blend of chemicals named Polychloroprene and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) and is produced by a process of polymerization to provide application benefits of both materials.

Alanto supply one form of neoprene/EPDM - NEB 120 expanded sponge rubber blend.

Strengths of EPDM/neoprene

This combination of synthetic rubber is:

  • Air resistant – due to its neoprene properties this blended material is nonporous and has an excellent resistance to air. The material is flexible and has good recovery characteristics when released after compression.
  • UV resistant – its durability leaves it impervious to damage by UV rays, ozone exposure and external weather conditions.
  • Thermal control – EPDM/neoprene has heat control properties and self-extinguishing characteristics. Neoprene/EPDM closed cell sponge has high flame retardant specification conforming to classification UL94 HF1.
  • Ageing – robust and flexible, this balance of components does not deteriorate over time.

What uses does EPDM/neoprene have?

Many of Alanto’s customers use neoprene closed cell sponge in a variety of different applications, industries of which include:

  • Construction
  • Glass and Glazing
  • Shipbuilding
  • Railways
  • Aircraft
  • Aerospace
  • Electrical
  • Engineering
  • Automotive

Other applications of neoprene across the world

EPDM/Neoprene is a commonly used material and has many uses through a variety of sectors...

Acoustic control
In many instances, the very nature of the material allows sound vibrations to be absorbed into the material and is excellent for acoustic applications.

General purpose
This blend of properties is an all-around excellent material for general purpose and is an adaptable and versatile material with a variety of applications.

Transportation
EPDM/neoprene is often used for mass transit purposes and can withstand heavy weights. Durability is a key benefit and is why it is an appropriate material for such uses.

Solar
Its ability to resist damage caused by UV rays makes the substance a popular choice for solar panels and other photovoltaic devices.
